St. Louis Alumnae Chapter History

Celebrating over 110 years as an alumnae chapter! A charter was granted to form the St. Louis Alumnae Chapter in 1909 as one of the first fourteen alumnae chapters of Kappa Alpha Theta.

Ten years later in 1919 the National Convention for Kappa Alpha Theta was held on the campus of Washington University with an attendance of 800 women.

The St. Louis Alumnae Chapter has supported many programs over the past 100 years to make us Leading Women in our community. In 1947 French War Orphan, Marie Louise Cellie, was adopted through Foster Parents’ Plan and supported by the St. Louis Alumnae Chapter through 1955.

From 1973 to 1994 the St. Louis chapter hosted Santa’s House during the month of December. This event raised $365,000 over twenty-one years and helped to endow the Kahla Roberts Latta/St. Louis Alumnae Chapter with the Theta Foundation.

The Movies in the Moonlight event was held from 2003 to 2009 and raised over $79,000 for our local CASA Chapter, Voices for Children, and the Theta Foundation.

The St. Louis Alumnae Chapter has received numerous awards and recognition at Grand Convention over the years. In 2004 our chapter received the Founder’s Award at Grand Convention for Best Overall Chapter with Membership greater than 200 women. Additionally, in 2014 the chapter received the Twin Star Award at Grand Convention and ranked as the 7th highest alumnae chapter in donations to the Kappa Alpha Theta Foundation.

Please consider joining us and continuing the strong legacy of the St. Louis Alumnae Chapter in our community. It is commitment and dedication that is required to keep an organization running.
